A slippery sex offender and fugitive from the United States is once again on the run in Costa Rica, and allegations of an inside job in this matter have not been answered.

The fugitive is known as John Wesley Saatio. As reported by The Costa Rica Star on June 17, Mr. Saatio was arrested as the result of an investigation conducted by by a neighborhood watch group and police in the coastal community of Jaco Beach.

Mr. Saatio was transported to the Temporary Detention Center for Immigrants with Irregular Status (Spanish acronym: CATECI), located in the populous Hatillo district of the capital city. At CATECI, Mr. Saatio was being processed for transport back to Green Bay, Michigan, when he decided to initiate an asylum petition.

A news report filed by the newsroom of daily tabloid Diario Extra indicated that a spokesperson from the Ministry of Security confirmed that Mr. Saatio had somehow broken out of CATECI. Diario Extra further explained that they showed up to the CATECI to investigate, but corrections officers shut the door on them when the journalists asked if Mr. Saatio’s escape could be related to an inside job.

It is important to note that Mr. Saatio had previously attempted to break out of a holding cell in Jaco Beach, where he attempted to bend the prison cell bars before being taken to the CATECI.

According to an official press release issued by Fuerza Publica, the national police force of Costa Rica, Mr. Saatio is a registered sex offender and fugitive from Houghton County, located in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, a pristine and frosty region of the U.S. was apprehended under an INTERPOL notice issued after he went on the lam while being transported to a court hearing in the Wolverine State.

Mr. Saatio is believed to have been in Costa Rica for about a year before his apprehension and subsequent escape.

According to a news brief posted by TV6, a news station in Upper Michigan, Mr. Saatio was charged with home invasion, destruction of police property, probation violations, and sex crimes. He is alleged to have broken into a Franklin Township home in May 2015.
