SIGN UP FOR OUR The province of Limon has received already 71% more rain than the average amount for the month of July and according to the National Meteorological Institute more rain is to be expected during this weekend in the Caribbean with the tropical depression number 18.
The heavy rainfall of the past weeks caused floods, landslides, fallen trees and overflown rivers; the National Emergency Commission reports there are still several rivers currently high and at a risk of overflowing, among them Chirripó, Reventazón, Pacuare, Colorado, Sarapiquí and San Juan.
Saturated floors are a concern for the National Emergency Commission that has called on the neighbors of this community to take the necessary precautions; the influence of this tropical depression will be felt both in the South Caribbean with estimated amounts between 40-80mm and in the North Caribbean and Northern Zone with storms that could accumulate 30-60mm.
Counties with higher vulnerability are: Turrialba, Pococí (including Tortuguero), Jiménez, Talamanca and Sixaola. The alert also goes to areas of high risk of landslides such as Route 32, Turrialba, Vara Blanca and Zona de los Santos.
“The National Emergency Commission (CNE) maintains Emergency Municipal Committees with the support of technical personnel of the CNE in engineering and geology, as well as officials to coordinate the first response operations and population management in conjunction with all the government institutions”, explained the CNE.
