An inflation of 5% is expected for 2013, yet the amount allocated for salaries in the national budget for the year has increased by 9.7%.

The total amount of the state budget will increase by 7.7% in 2013, while the amount for wages to be paid to government officials will grow by nearly 10%.

An article in Elfinancierocr.com reports that “although this year the expenditure for salary payments was ¢1,300 billion ($2.61 billion), next years will be ¢1,500 billion ($3.01 billion). But the complete amount for remuneration (which includes, in addition to wages, bonuses or incentives) for 2013 is ¢1,900 billion ($3.81 billion), a 9.7% increase compared to 2012. Such an increase in wages applies to all ministries of the executive branch and also to the Ombudsman, the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE), the Controller General of the Republic (CGR), the Legislature and the Judiciary.”
