Puntarenas receives many tourists from cruise ships every day, however, the majority of these visitors choose to take tours in nearby areas due to the lack of attractions and activities to enjoy in the pier and Paseo de los Turistas; solving this situation is what is motivating the building of a new park that will receive the tourists and hopefully get them to spend more time in this zone.

The project “Parque de los Muelleros” is expected to have a cost of over $2.1 million and its inspired in the “Paseo de la Pérgola” in Malaga, Spain. The park will connect to the Marine Park to increase the visitation of the same.

A small amphitheater, sculptures, skating area, bus stop, rest areas, and illuminated columns will be some of the attractions of the park.

The project is still in the beginning stages and requires the green light and budgeting of the Costa Rican Institute of Ports of the Pacific. It is expected that the construction of the same will take approximately 6 months.

This is just one of a series of improvements that are planned in this area to go along with the plans of the Costa Rica Tourism Board to attract more cruise ships.
