On January 11, The Costa Rica Star reported on the change of coloration of Rio Celeste, which was caused apparently by material that had feel in the rivers consequence of a landslides that were caused by an earthquake swarm that registered at least 42 movements in the area of Guanacaste from January 9th and through January 11th.

Authorities of the National System of Areas of Conservation (SINAC) confirmed that the color of the famous river, a very popular tourist stop in the country, is back to its usual light blue and the National Emergency Commission has concluded evaluation the conditions of the trails and common areas of the Tenorio Volcano National Park and is certain that the park is safe for visitation.

“The Tenorio Volcano National Park is open today and will remain open to the public as long as no new earthquakes, strong winds or rainfall affect the area and force its closure again”, informed the SINAC through its social media today.

Rio Celeste or Light-Blue River is a famous tourism attraction in Costa Rica, the river gets its baby blue coloration from a natural chemical reaction that occurs between minerals in this volcano-rich region and the point of union of two rivers, Buena Vista and El Roble, each with different chemical characteristics.
