Royal Caribbean Cruise Ship Rescued Two Costa Rican Castaways Adrift for Over 20 Days

The crew of a Royal Caribbean Cruise rescued two Costa Rican castaways in waters of the Caribbean.

The Royal Caribbean cruise ship Empress of the Seas, found the two fishermen between Grand Cayman and Jamaica, they had apparently been adrift since December 1st.

Chief Meteorologist for Royal Caribbean International, James Van Fleet shared some of the details and photos of this event. He explained that the cruise was scheduled to be in Cienfuegos, Cuba at the time, however, they changed itinerary to get to better weather, had they not made this change the two men would not have been so lucky.

The rescue took place on Friday, December 21.

One of the fishermen was very weak and could barely walk, both men were dropped off in Ocho Rios, Jamaica, and by then he was already strong enough to walk on his own.

The crew even collected some money to help them buy clothes and food.

The Ministry of Public Security in Costa Rica commented they had not been alerted of this case but were already in communication with Jamaican authorities to get details on this case.
