San José, the capital city of Costa Rica is considered by many as dirty, collapsed by heavy traffic, street vendors, and affected by insecurity; many times, however, we have highlighted the many treasures that this city hides and that are worth discovering; and apparently there are many tourists that have made their way to San José attracted by some of those jewels.
According to Global Destination Index 2017 a study carried out by Mastercard every year and that measures among other things the number of people that spent at least one or more nights in a city and which includes 132 countries and the activity for the year 2016, San José is the sixth city in Latin America when it comes to the number of tourists that visit.
The ranking lists in first place Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic which registered 3.43 million visitors, followed by Mexico City with 3 million; Lima, Peru with 2.68 million’ in fourth place Sao Paulo in Brazil with 2.25 and to complete the top five, Buenos Aires, Argentina which registers 1.85 million.
San José registered 1.75 million visitors and forecasts a growth of 4.6% for 2017.
When it comes to the general world ranking, the top five includes Bangkok, Thailand with 19.41 million visitors; London, England with 19.06 million; Paris, France 15.45 million; Dubai, United Arab Emirates-registered 14.87 million and Singapore with 13.11.
New York in the United States holds the sixth position globally with 12.70 million visitors annually.
