San Jose Marathon takes place December 4

The 21st edition of the San Jose Marathon will take place this Sunday, December 4th with over 3500 participants distributed in three different categories.

Representatives from 26 different countries, including Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, Germany, Russia and Italy will be part of this traditional event in Costa Rica that will kick off at 6:00 a.m. from the National Stadium and will extend until 12 noon.

Over twelve million colones (over $22 thousand dollars) in prizes will be distributed among the winners of the different categories; an additional bonus of a million colones will go to the athlete that can establish a new record, the current one is 2 hours, 17 minutes and 27 seconds.

This edition is dedicated to the Costa Rican Traffic Police in celebration of their 90 years of service. Categories include: Mini Marathon: 4km (2.5miles), Relay, Half Marathon 21km (13 miles), and Marathon 42km (26 miles).

Hillary Kimaiyo, Rodgers Gesabwa and Caroline Jibiwot are three elite athletes from Kenia, special guests that will be part of the event along with Mexican Esmeralda Rebollo, Colombian Andres Ruiz Venezuelan Pedro Mora , among others.

The last day to register in the competition is Friday, December 2.
