A criminal trial for the murder of two men at a bar in the southern suburbs of San Jose made headlines in Costa Rica yesterday, which was when a witness who was in a sexual relationship with the accused killer took the stand. Wearing tight clothing and high heels, the attractive woman confessed that she was a prostitute hired by the defendant, and that they were having sex at the time the murders took place.
The defendant is a man identified by the last name of Crespi. The murders took place on August 9th, 2014 in the Toños Bar of the Calle Fallas residential community in the populous district of Desamparados.
Three women were presented as defense witnesses for Mr. Crespi yesterday. One was his sister, another was a neighbor who was at a pulperia (neighborhood convenience store) near the bar where the murders took place, and the third witness was the aforementioned call girl, who was described by metro reporter Manuel Estrada of daily tabloid Diario Extra as an alluring young woman with a shapely figure and cascading, silky black hair.
Those present in the courtroom seemed to be captivated by the statements delivered by the call girl from the witness stand:
On that day [when the murders took place], I slept with him. I arrived at his sister’s apartment in Escazu and I went straight to his bedroom. I only came out to use the shower each time we had sex.
He calls me up every two months and he pays me 40 thousand colones (about $80). I enjoy being with him, and so our encounters last six or seven hours because we hang out together. After that day, I met him another time at a motel where his sister had taken him. There is no way he could have been at the scene of the crime because we were in his bedroom, having sex.
Mr. Crespi’s sister explained that she was the one who drove the call girl to her apartment, and later to a motel, to have sex with her brother. She explained that Mr. Crespi had survived a couple of shootings, and thus he required some level of protection such as being driven around and moved from place to place.
On the night of the shootings, Mr. Crespi’s sister did not stay in the apartment while her brother was in the bedroom with the call girl. She said she left him two marijuana cigarettes and then headed to a reggaeton concert and did not come back until the early morning hours. The trial will continue with more testimony hearings on Friday.
