In the past the Costa Rica Star has published about organic coffee and coffee cupping tours in Costa Rica.

The U.S. coffee chain, Starbucks, continues its expansion in Costa Rica with a fourth store location opening in March.

The new store will be Plaza Freses, in Curridabat, on the east side of San José. No opening date has been set as of yet, though the company is already hiring staff and receiving resumes.

Starbucks opened its first coffee shop location in Costa Rica back in May 2012, in the upscale commercial centre of Avenida Escazú. The customer lineups during the first week of opening spilled over onto the street.

Starbucks followed up with a second location in Lincoln Plaza in November of 2012 and the third opening last September, in Distrito 4, also in Escazú.

The arrival of Starbucks in Costa Rica also spurred interest from Colombia’s Juan Valdéz chain of coffee shops. Juan Valdéz and Starbucks are waging their battle in Colombia with the announcement late last year by Starbucks to enter into Colombian territory, which is dominated by the Juan Valdéz coffee chain.
