It was another relaxing grey day, with waist to head-high surf for the FSC 2012 Olympus National Circuit’s second day of the competition event in Jacó. Saturday and Sunday’s event rounded off the fifth of seven weekend surf competitions that will decide who are Costa Rica’s FSC 2012 National Circuit champions in two months.

The surfers ripped their boards across the waves and onto the judges’ score cards throughout the day in seven different event categories: Open, Juniors, Boys, Mini-Grommets, Womens Open, Womens Juniors, and Longboard.

As the surfers duked it out, taking what they could out of each and every wave, I decided to peruse the competition area. Two beautiful, well-endowed promo girls in blue bikinis were coming and going from the Olympus tent. With a cardboard cut out imitation of an Olympus camera, they were taking pictures with groups of spectators with their faces inside the view finder/ display of the fancy cut-out. A sharp smell hits my nose and I see that people are drinking Vanilla and Mocha iced coffees that are coming from a very large Café Britt tent.

The final horns blow as I’m watching the people who are sitting in the REEF tent. I’m not sure yet but it seems like the Jacó surfers were fairly dominant. I wait a minute and go back around to the back side of the judges panel to check the final scores. Maybe we should chalk it up to home-town advantage, but Sunday’s competition was a Jacó-a-thon. The town of Jacó is a Costa Rican surfing mecca and houses many great surfers. Jacó residents placed 1^st in three of the four male categories and also won the Longboarding event.

Stay tuned for the sixth leg of the FSC National Circuit July 28^th and 29^th in Santa Teresa. After Santa Teresa, its back to the Jaco area to finish the circuit at Playa Hermosa for a three day event in August.
