Suspect in Killing of Spanish Tourist in Tortuguero Costa Rica Was Arrested

A coordinated action between police bodies of the Ministry of Public Security allowed the arrest of the suspect of murdering a Spanish tourist in the area of Barra del Tortuguero, Pococi, Limon.

The operation began Saturday evening and concluded in the early hours of this Sunday after a joint action carried out by the Police Intelligence Department of the Public Police Force, the Direction of the Public Police Force of the Caribbean Region and the National Coast Guard Service.

According to information provided by commander Nelson Barquero, the police found the man in the area close to where the crime took place.

The suspect is a 33-year-old man of last name Diaz and Nicaraguan nationality who entered the country illegally close to three months ago, he had been working for a few days in a hotel in the area.

Authorities did not give information on what links this man to the crime of the woman since the evidence is part of the ongoing investigation.

The Spanish tourist of name Arcanza Gutierrez and 30 years-old, apparently was staying in the area along with her husband and decided to go for a walk on Saturday morning on her own; however, when time passed the husband got concerned that she had not returned and when he went looking for her along with hotel personnel and they found her dead.
