FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Only days after announcing 29 new players, NSU women’s soccer coach John Constable has decided to add one more for the 2016 season. Constable makes it an eighth international signing with the capture of former Costa Rica U17 national team captain, Gaby Alfaro Alvarado.

“Gaby is a quality player. We had her training with us in the spring and there was no doubting her quality but at the time I did have major reservations about her fitness. However, she has shown an unbelievable amount of commitment and sacrifice over the summer to get back to athletic shape and we will feel the benefit of this during the fall. Gaby hadn’t played for a couple of years after she left Manhattan College (NCAA D1). However, she has good leadership experience having captained Costa Rica U17 national team and a very successful IMG team too. Gaby has captained many players that have went on to have great college soccer careers.

She also has been in the Costa Rica senior national team squad a few times. She has a fantastic first touch and she has a good soccer brain. In general, her technique is solid and she is a good defender that knows where to position herself. Separate from that, not only does she have incredible height and strength but she is absolutely exceptional in the air both from a defensive and offensive standpoint.

We got a bit of luck with the fact that Gaby was already on our campus but perhaps we also generated that luck ourselves by playing well last year which no doubt played a part in Gaby wanting to get out there and play for the Sharks. We are very excited to add Gaby to the program. She has a big and very likeable and social personality. She will be good for us on the field and also very important for us off the field and in the locker room.”
