If you are heading to the ritzy Lincoln Plaza shopping mall in the eastern suburbs of San Jose, please note that you may encounter storm troopers from the 501st Legion, an Imperial galactic unit that once served as the personal guard of Darth Vader in the Star Wars universe. You may also run into Jedi Knights, Rebel fighters and Mandalorians while at the mall, but there’s no reason to worry: They are all cosplay fans assembled for the Star Wars Expo Costa Rica 2015, a gathering of fans and collectors of the fictional universe inspired by the George Lucas-directed films.
The Star Wars Expo Costa Rica 2015 will take place at Lincoln Plaza on Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th of April, starting at 1:00 pm. This neat family event will feature trivia contests, awards for the best costumes, workshops, toys and memorabilia exhibits, Light Saber training for children (sorry, it is already full), and even a live concert featuring music from the Star Wars film saga and performed by the Cartago Concert Band.
Organizers of the Star Wars Expo Costa Rica 2015 hope to see many parents who grew up mesmerized by this rich universe, and who in turn are passing on their enthusiasm to their children. One of the highlights of the event will be the participation of cosplay (costume play) fans, whose hobby is very important in terms of providing ambiance. The Star Wars cosplayers in Costa Rica are part of the 501st Legion Outpost and their assorted Rebel opponents.
Star Wars fans in Costa Rica and around the world are very excited to learn that the spirit of the fictional universe is being nurtured and expanded by the entertainment leviathan Disney, which is the current owner of the intellectual property created by LucasFilms and LucasArts. To this effect, the official sequel Star Wars: The Force Awakens is expected in theaters in late 2015.
Some fans believe that the Force has been strong in Costa Rica for a while. After all, our country is home to Finca Bellavista, a veritable Ewok village in the tropical forests of our southern Pacific coast.
