In the capital city of Costa Rica, commuters heading to work or school in the early morning hours of Tuesday were left aghast when they witnessed a man jump from the fourth floor balcony of his hotel room. According to a report filed by metro reporter Krissia Morris Gray of daily tabloid Diario Extra, the incident occurred at the Hotel Costa Rica Morazan, not far from another hotel where a tourist from the United States was recently found dead under mysterious circumstances.

The report by Diario Extra estimated the age of the decedent to have been between 35 and 40. He was an Asian male who checked in with a passport issued by the Socialist Republic of Vietnam on April 23^rd. Although many commuters heard the impact of the tourist’s fall, only a few actually saw him fall. One of the  passerby approached the Vietnamese man; alas, he was already lying lifeless on the dewy pavement.

Members of the hotel staff came out and immediately recognized their guest, who had already spent a few nights. He seemed to have been quiet and modest; nothing about his demeanor as a traveler indicated that he would willfully choose our country as his last earthly destination. Officers from Fuerza Publica, the national police force of Costa Rica, arrived with the requisite yellow tape to cordon off the area; they were followed by members from the medical examiner’s office.

According to the website of the hotel in question, the property is located one block from the Del Rey Hotel and next to the Francisco Morazan Park. As previously reported by The Costa Rica Star:

There are various hotels in this part of the city; they range from the upscale to the boutique and from hostels to love motels […] This area is also part of the “Gringo Gulch,” a notorious hotspot for sexual tourism in Costa Rica.
