The pharmaceutical transnational, Allergan, recently awarded its Costa Rica manufacturing plant for its excellent performance.
Allergan was founded in 2015 through the acquisition of Allergan, Inc by Actavis, Plc, according to corporate information. The company manufactures branded and generic pharmaceuticals, and conducts pharmaceutical research and development.
After an evaluation of its plants in Germany, Belgium, the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, the United States, Brazil and Costa Rica, Allergan Costa Rica was awarded 2016 Plant of the Year, reported the Costa Rican Investment and Export Promotion Agency (CINDE).
The ranking was based on Costa Rica’s successful promotion of continuous improvement practices resulting from incorporating best practices, and from having “the best and boldest performance within the company’s global manufacturing network,” added CINDE.
With headquarters in Dublin, Ireland and Parsippany-Troy Hills, New Jersey, United States, Allergan has 40 manufacturing facilities throughout the world, as well as 27 global research and development centers and marketing/sales facilities, serving about 100 countries. Brenton L. Saunders is the current chairman and CEO of the global corporation with an estimated 30,000 employees globally.
Latest company data shows that the company produced US$15.07 billion in revenue in 2015 and their total assets in 2014 were US$52.529 billion.
Foreign Trade Minister Alexander Mora commented that, “Allergan … is not only a source of high quality employment for more than 600 Costa Ricans, but it is one of the companies that has allowed the successful incorporation of Costa Rica into global value chains.”
Jorge Sequeira, Director General of CINDE said: “Costa Rica is ranked in first place in innovation in Latin America by the World Economic Forum, and this recognition reflects our human resources talent … and is no accident.”
Allergan began operations in Costa Rica under the name of Inamed, whose medical device plant was acquired by Allergan in 2007, the year in which it inaugurated its current building in the Global Park free zone in Aurora de Heredia. Allergan Costa Rica manufactures breast implants and tissue expanders that are distributed to more than 50 destinations around the world, explained CINDE.
