Although ecotourism and surfing are the top tourism activities in Costa Rica, SCUBA divers in the know have been gradually discovering our numerous underwater havens. In the Pacific Coast we find Isla Murcielago (Bat Islands), part of the Guanacaste Conservation Area. The Bat Islands are located in the midst of the Costa Rica Thermal Convection Dome, the richest concentration of phytoplankton in the world; this translates into a diving spot that is brimming with marine life.

This video was recently posted to the Oceano VideoSub channel on YouTube. It features a group of Manta birostris, gentle giants that are curious and known to approach divers. These are the largest mantas in the subclass Elasmobranchii, and they are plentiful in the Bat Islands.
