US Soccer Press Release / CHICAGO (Oct. 11, 2015) – U.S. head coach Jurgen Klinsmann has called up five players to join the Men’s National Team ahead of Tuesday’s friendly against 2014 FIFA World Cup quarterfinalists Costa Rica at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, N.J.

Goalkeeper Bill Hamid (D.C. United), midfielders, Mix Diskerud (New York City FC), Lee Nguyen (New England Revolution), Brek Shea (Orlando City SC) and forward Andrew Wooten (Sandhausen), will join the squad upon the team’s arrival Sunday.

Following Saturday’s CONCACAF Cup match, Klinsmann released a total of eight players from camp: goalkeeper Nick Rimando, defenders DaMarcus Beasley and Matt Besler, midfielders Kyle Beckerman, Michael Bradley and Graham Zusi and forwards Clint Dempsey and Chris Wondolowski.

With the changes, the MNT roster stands at 21 players heading into the USA’s final match before the start of qualifying for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Kickoff for the contest against Costa Rica is set for 6:30 p.m. ET (4:30 pm in Costa Rica), and the match will be shown live on ESPN, WatchESPN, UniMas and Univision Deportes Network.

Costa Rica Lineup Forthcoming

The National Football Federation (Spanish acronym: FEDEFUTBOL) will soon announce the lineup that will travel to New Jersey to face the USMNT. Costa Rica is seeking a victory after the recent match against South Africa, which was lost by one goal at the Chinese-donated National Stadium in La Sabana Metropolitan Park.

The loss against the South African team, affectionately known by their fans as Bafana Bafana (Zulu for “The Boys”) was the first for Costa Rica since 2002, when CONCACAF rival Mexico won 2 – 0. The focus against the U.S. would be on offense, and coach Oscar Ramirez plans to give younger strikers more minutes on the pitch.
