The Social Security Service (C.C.S.S.) received a donation of protection equipment from the United States Embassy.

Roman Macaya, executive director of the C.C.S.S. said the donated items will be used by the workers that are providing direct attention to the sanitary emergency caused by Covid-19.

“We received disposable medical gowns and gloves for the protection of our workers who are in the first contention line. They are giving attention to the patients that come in with symptoms of cold and that in many cases will turn out to be positive, for this reason we have to try to do everything we can to guarantee the security of our health workers”, commented Macaya.

“We thank the Embassy for the donations given to the Social Security Service, equipment that will be very important for the attention of Covid-19 in out country, I am sure we will get through this together”, said the President Carlos Alvarado.

“I am proud that the Government of the United States was able to help Costa Rica, especially those brave men and women providing medical services in Costa Rica, to face this global pandemia together”, expressed Sharon Day, US Ambassador to Costa Rica.

The donation consists of 9,700 isolation gowns and 57,000 surgery gloves. The equipment is valued in $75,000.00. This is the first of two donations that will be received, the second one will include face masks and protective googles.

All supplies were purchased from local providers.

The Embassy has also been donating food dishes to the Ministry of Public Security.
