Friday, November 10, the United States Embassy and Consulate in San José, Costa Rica will be closed in commemoration of the U.S. federal holiday, Veterans Day,
In May 1938, this day was set as a commemoration of world peace and to celebrate what was known as Armistice Day, when it was customary to honor the veterans of World War I.
“However, in 1954, after the Second World War, its name was changed to Veterans Day, in order to honor the veterans of all wars for their patriotism, love of their country, their desire to serve their nation, and their sacrifice for the common good,” said the U.S. Embassy press office.
The diplomatic headquarters will reopen Monday, November 13 during their usually business hours of 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
