SIGN UP FOR OUR The family of murdered tourist, Carla Stefaniak, has continued to share information regarding Carla’s case through the Facebook page “FindingCarla”, on one of the most recent posts, they informed that Costa Rican authorities had shared the results of the autopsy with the family, they described the same as “absolutely terrifying”.
Although exact details were not shared, it has been said that the body had several wounds inflicted with a bladed weapon on arms and neck and a blow to the head likely caused with a blunt force weapon; the Judiciary Investigative Police (OIJ) also informed that the motive of the crime is believed to have been sexual assault, one of Carla’s suitcases was also found in the area close to the lodging facility where she stayed, the other suitcase is still missing.
“Carla’s Clothes, iPhone and other electronics were found. This is consistent with with our initial suspicions and communications with Costa Rican authorities that whoever abducted Carla turned her electronics off and the last digital footprint was at the AirBnb location”, affirms the family on another post.
Stefaniak, was a Venezuelan-USA native, who arrived to Costa Rica, November 22, in the company of her friend and sister-in-law April Antonieta Burton, they visited Manuel Antonio in Quepos and La Fortuna in San Carlos; Burton took a flight back to Florida on November 27, while Stefaniak stayed the night at Villa Le Mas in the area of San Antonio, Escazu, where she had arranged the lodging through AirBnB. According to Burton, she last heard of Stefaniak at around 8 p.m. on November 27th, when she told her it was raining crazy and the power had gone out.
The family believes more people were involved in the murder of Stefaniak.
The Facebook page also insists that several publications in the country have a responsibility of guaranteeing security for the tourists, they also shared the following coverage done by national news network HLN on Carla’s case that includes security tips for tourists traveling alone.
