The Westin Golf Resort & Spa, Playa Conchal in Guanacaste, informed the public through a press release of their recent purchase of 12 electric vehicles with an investment of $370,000.
With this measure the Westin Hotel becomes the first in the country to have a vehicle fleet 100% electric.
The purchase of the electric cars takes place just after Congress approved a law to exempt cars and motorcycles that are 100% electrical from the payment of taxes and marchamo for five years.
The vehicles acquired are Star for 12 passengers and besides running on electricity they have solar panels that support the internal lights.
“This investment supports our commitment with the environment since this purchase directly relates to the reduction of gas emissions of greenhouse effect”, explained Gisela Sanchez, director of Corporate Relations at Florida Ice & Farm (Fifco), company that owns the complex.
The Westin Conchal Golf Resort & Spa is a carbon positive hotel; it has the highest (level-5) Sustainable Tourism Certificate from the Costa Rican Tourism Institute. The hotel has set aside 40 hectares of dry forest and mangrove and has a solid recycling program.
