The Costa Rica White Hawk Project‘s mission is to purchase forested lands to protect all of the wildlife in the Carate River Valley, creating a crucial wildlife corridor all along the Osa Peninsula where animals can roam freely and be protected.

Mission

The goal of this project is to purchase forested lands for protection of all of the wildlife in the Carate River Valley. It will be part of a protected corridor that will span from Corcovado National Park to Luna Lodge and continue to the southern end of the peninsula. With much of this land bordering Corcovado National Park, the corridor would literally be an extension of the park where the animals can roam freely and be protected.

Mission Statement

To preserve and protect the biological diversity of the flora and fauna in both primary and secondary forests in the Southern Part of the Peninsula de Osa, by making a wildlife preservation corridor adjoining Corcovado National Park, Luna Lodge and extending properties.

2. Preserve and Protect into perpetuity
3. Maintain the authenticity of flora and fauna by allowing the natural reproduction, growth and range of native species.
4. Respect the rights and privileges of current owners by allowing those, who presently live on their property to remain there for their life time.
A. This right shall not extend to any future generations.
B. The owner must abide by standards set by the mission statement.

1. Work collaboratively with other conservation entities in our area using scientific research, innovative ideas, and a spirit of co-operation to craft solutions to problems so as to ensure that our mission endures.
2. Strive to educate the community, the board members, and staff concerning our mission statement.
3. Keep Mission and objectives in forefront and in focus concerning allocation of funds.

General Information

We are happy to let you know that we are going to be working with a foundation called, EL TIGRE FUND. It was established in 2004. Their mission statement is, “to protect the biological diversity of the world’s flora and fauna and to encourage and support scientific research, projects, facilities that work toward environmental conservation and education”.

This fund is exempt from taxes under the United States IRS code 501(c)(3). To date it has supported projects in the Osa Peninsula including the Harpy Eagle project, the Osa Sea Turtle Project, an on going Crocodile Survey and now a Census of the Monkey population in the Carate watershed and lagoon and the Recycling Center in Puerto Jimenez. In Africa, they have helped support the Cheetah Conservation Fund’s efforts in Kenya as well as a tree planting project. They have also been involved with projects in Belize. The board of directors of the fund now agrees to concentrate their efforts in the Osa Peninsula of Costa Rica where they can see the results and monitor more closely the effect of their support. Any donations can be made payable to the El Tigre Fund. Please add a letter with your check and tell them that you want this to go to the “Costa Rica White Hawk Project” or make note of it on the bottom of the check. Donations can be sent to:

Donors will receive a receipt for tax purposes. This is beneficial for those from the USA who wish to make a tax deductible gift. All donations so far have been from private donors. For the White Hawk Project, we will be keeping a separate accounting of donations and expenditures. Conservation is the sole purpose for establishing this fund.
