From movie stars and musicians to regarded athletes and beautiful supermodels, this small Central American country has become a hot spot for celebrities, whether they just stop by for a few days in vacation mode like the Kardashian-Jenner clan or as a more permanent home away from home as is the case for NFL quarterback Tom Brady and wife Gisele Bundchen.
What is it about Costa Rica that attracts celebrities? Costa Ricas President, Luis Guillermo Solis, summed it up in a video just a few weeks back when he invited Oscar winning actress Emma Stone to visit the country:
Of course, it is all about the beautiful beaches, lush nature and hospitality, it also has to do with the fact that even though they are big celebrities, many times they are able to get by unnoticed, and as we all know, if there is one thing celebrities appreciate and value is their privacy.
Demi Moore, Sharon Stone, Catherine Zeta Jones and husband Michael Douglas, Selena Gomez, George Clooney, Rafa Nadal, Leonardo DiCaprio, Mel Gibson, Usher, Miley Cyrus, Beyoncé and Jaz-Z, Chris Hemsworth and Matt Damon, are just some of the many stars that we know have spent time in the different Costa Rican beaches.
The fact is that unless they post about their time in the country in their social media or if someone leaks the information, they can pretty much come and go as they please, after all once they are in their bathing suits, with their hair down, sunglasses, hats, and they surfing board, they just become another tourist to the Costa Rican crowd, unless someone is lucky enough to run into them while shopping or eating in a public spot, which usually doesn’t happen.
Some of them have their vacation homes in Costa Rica, they come and go, no one really seems to make a big fuzz about it, aside from Mel Gibson and Tom Brady, it is rumored that former tennis star Andre Agassi owns a house in Playas del Coco, as does Harrison Ford. The preferred spots for celebrities are: Papagayo Gulf in Guanacaste, Santa Teresa and Mal País in the South Pacific, Mel Gibson’s estate is located in Playa Barrigona, Guanacaste, some have been spotted in the area of La Fortuna de San Carlos, the remote and secluded Osa Península is a perfect area, and others in mountain lodges in Dota and Alajuela.
Keep your eyes open next time you are vacationing in Costa Rica and aside from sloths, macaws and howler monkeys you may run into your favorite star.
