Superstar point guard Stephen Curry got back on track after a couple of off nights, scoring 33 points to help lead the Warriors to a comfortable 114-89 victory Wednesday night over one of their main rivals, the Los Angeles Clippers.

His fellow “splash brother,” shooting guard Klay Thompson, added 32 points for Golden State at Oracle Arena in Oakland, California.

With the victory, the Warriors (64-7) improved to 33-0 at home this season – extending their NBA record for consecutive regular-season home wins (dating back to last season) to 51 – and remain on pace to break the Michael Jordan-led 1995-1996 Chicago Bulls’ mark for most wins (72) in an NBA regular season.

To break that record, they must finish with a record of 9-2 or better over their remaining 11 games, eight of which will be played at home.

Two of those 11 contests, however, will be against the Spurs, their main Western Conference challenger, who routed the Heat 112-88 on Wednesday night to run their streak of consecutive regular-season home wins dating back to last season to 45, second-most in NBA history.

Superstar forward Kawhi Leonard scored 32 to lead the Spurs (60-11) to the easy win.

The Spurs, who leapfrogged Jordan’s Bulls into second place in the consecutive home wins category, now have a perfect 36-0 record this season at the AT&T Center in San Antonio.

The Warriors, meanwhile, have said the wins record is not their priority, but head coach Steve Kerr indicated after Wednesday’s victory that it is now very much on the team’s radar.

“That’s pretty enticing. It’s the players who are setting the record. It’s not the organization, so they will absolutely have some say in matters down the stretch in terms of how we approach everything,” Kerr said.

Elsewhere Wednesday night in the NBA, the Cleveland Cavaliers, the favorite to reach the NBA Finals out of the Eastern Conference, got 26 points, eight assists and six rebounds from superstar LeBron James in a 113-104 home victory over the Milwaukee Bucks. EFE
