Suspects wanted in the shooting of a Rumanian man outside a Santa Ana restaurant at 1:30 p.m. today remain at large.

Updated at 6:45 p.m. Names of those injured and other details on the shooting have been updated and corrected with accurate information from police sources.

This afternoon at around 1:30 p.m., two men fled the scene of a crime after one of the men walked in front of the Old West Restaurante y Bar near downtown Santa Ana, took out a pistol, and without saying a word, shot at close range a Rumanian man who was standing outside the bar talking on a phone, leaving him wounded with 7 gun shots.

The Old West owner, who was standing near the entrance of the establishment when the shooter fired at the 44-year-old Rumanian named Mircea, was also injured by a gun shot. The 51-year-old owner is a Costa Rican man from Santa Ana, with no prior criminal record, by the last name of Montes.

The shooter was picked up right after the shooting by a man on a motorcycle.

The motorcyclists were last seen speeding on the old road towards Piedades, Santa Ana, a suburb west of San José, according to the  Judicial Investigative Agency (OIJ) police. and are still on the loose.

Police have mounted a search on the county’s roads.

Mircea is a resident of Santa Ana, has lived in Costa Rica for the past 15 years, and has a criminal record in Costa Rica for extortion and damages, according to the OIJ.

The Old West Restaurante y Bar is located 200 meters east of the Red Cross near downtown Santa Ana.

The shooter and his accomplice were last seen fleeing the crime scene on a motorcycle and remain to be found. Nor have any motives in the case been identified.
