Tigo (Millicom) is preparing to enter the Costa Rican mobile market by bidding for spectrum in the country’s forthcoming tender, reported Costa Rica’s business daily El Financiero, citing the company’s director of corporate affairs Norman Chaves.

The operator, which provides cable and TV services under the Tigo Star brand in Costa Rica, expressed an interest in the tender for 70MHz in the 1800MHz and 1900/2100MHz bands by providing comments on the tender process announced by the country’s regulator Sutel.

Tigo asked for a deadline extension on the bid deadline and requested clarification on the price-setting mechanism. Existing providers Claro (America Movil) and Movistar (Telefonica) also provided feedback on the bid, said the report.

Sutel announced the tender for 70MHz of spectrum at the end of last year.

The regulator said the blocks will be made available for mobile broadband and telephony services in the 1800MHz and 1900/2100MHz bands, with interested bidders required to submit their proposals by February 13, 2017.
