For most people, sex on the beach involves mixing vodka and peach schnapps with orange and cranberry juice. For some Canadians visiting Costa Rica, however, sex on the beach involves mixing with each other in the sand. As recently reported by the Toronto Star, a survey by Expedia.ca indicates that visitors from Ontario and Quebec are more likely to get down in Guanacaste than those from British Columbia.

The “Escape Winter Report” by Expedia.ca revealed the following figures as described by the Toronto Star:

• 53 percent of Canadians let loose while vacationing in sunny tourist spots such as Costa Rica and Mexico, although this does not mean that more than half will risk getting sand in hard-to-reach places; this mostly means that they would try unusual food or engage in adventuresome activities such as kite boarding and surfing. In this regard, Canadian women are more likely to take the lead than men.
• 28 percent of visitors from Quebec will try sex on the beach (again, not the drink). A quarter of those from Ontario would do the same, but only 18 percent from Alberta and B.C. would consider it.
• Only 22 percent of Canadian visitors take selfies at the beach.

More Canadians would be willing to try sex on the beach in Costa Rica if they had more air travel options from Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver; these are some of the departure destinations where travelers have expressed serious interest in seeing non-stop service to the Daniel Oduber International Airport in Liberia (LIR).

Last year, the Costa Rica Star put together a petition on Change.org to get the attention of WestJet:

We decided to petition West Jet, because lets face it, they are the coolest and most enjoyable Canadian airline supplier, and we truly believe they can make [these flights] a reality. So, lets get together, sign the petition on change.org, and move in the right direction to make this a reality.

It would only make sense for WestJet to pursue non-stop service to LIR. After all, half of the airport is owned by the Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement Fund. Judging by the some of the comments left by those who have signed the petition, they are not thrilled about having to stop in Houston or other airports in the United States before they land in Guanacaste.
