Two broadcast networks and a craft brewery in Chicago are the latest businesses no longer interested in doing business with real estate mogul and reality TV star Donald Trump.

 

Last week, The Costa Rica Star reported on Trump’s dismissal by Univision, and now The Chicago Tribune reports that:

 

5 Rabbit Cerveceria, a craft brewery in Chicago, has pulled its beer from the Trump Tower, citing Donald Trump’s derogatory comments toward Mexican-American immigrants.

 

5 Rabbit founder Andres Araya, who is from Costa Rica, was brewing a specialty golden ale specifically for the mezzanine bar at the Trump Hotel Chicago. Nonetheless, Mr. Araya will no longer feature his craft beer at the Trump property:

 

“Many of the comments he’s made recently really strike a chord directly at us as Latin American immigrants, and it’s just something you can’t let slide,” said Araya, a native of Costa Rica. “Everyone’s entitled to their opinion, but that doesn’t mean we need to do business with people who have that point of view. It goes against everything we represent as business owners.”

 

Mr. Araya will now rename his beer “chinga tu pelo,” which can be roughly translated to “[expletive] your hairstyle.” Furthermore, here’s a report from Agencia EFE, international news wire partner for The Costa Rica Star:

 

New York, Jun 29 (EFE).- The NBC television network announced Monday that it is breaking all its business ties with Donald Trump, will not broadcast the Miss USA and Miss Universe beauty pageants and will cancel “The Celebrity Apprentice” reality show as a result of racist comments the magnate made during his speech kicking off his campaign for the Republican presidential nomination.

“At NBC, respect and dignity for all people are cornerstones of our values,” the network said in a statement. “Due to the recent derogatory statements by Donald Trump regarding immigrants, NBCUniversal is ending its business relationship with Mr. Trump.”

The network had received a petition with more than 200,000 signatures calling upon it to cancel the broadcasts of the beauty contests and on Monday it announced that it was ending its relationship with Trump.

Offended by the remarks of the real estate magnate regarding Mexicans and immigration, Guillermo Castañeda had posted a petition on the Change.org Web site asking for NBC to cancel its broadcasts of the Miss USA and Miss Universe competitions, as well as “The Celebrity Apprentice.”

The petition echoes the decision by Spanish-language television network Univision last Friday to break off its business relationship with the Trump Organization, including the July 12 broadcast of the Miss USA 2015 contest because of the “offensive” remarks by the candidate in his speech launching his presidential campaign.

“I, like many others, am an immigrant and had immigrant ancestors that gave their heart and soul for this country. I have two Bachelor degrees and one Masters. There are also millions and millions of us that are reporters, police, entertainers, entrepreneurs, etc. Some even defend this country as part of the military!” said Castañeda on the petition, addressing NBC.

Trump alluded to the need to build a “big wall” along the U.S.-Mexico border to keep Mexican migrants out, and for Mexico to pay for it.

“You are supporting a hateful and narcissistic individual without any kind of values, both personal and business wise. Not only that, but you are supporting a growing trend of bigotry and division in this country,” Castañeda said in the petition.

“A large part of your audience is Hispanic and we watch NBC, NBC News and Telemundo,” he added. “How about looking out for us?”

Trump said in his June 16 speech launching his campaign that “When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists.”

Although he did say that “some” Mexicans were good people NBC has distanced itself from those comments, saying that they are Trump’s opinions and do not represent the stance of the network.

Meanwhile, well-known Latino figures such as music producer Emilio Estefan, Colombian singer J. Balvin, Chilean actor Cristian de la Fuente and Puerto Rican actress Roselyn Sanchez had all expressed their outrage over Trump’s comments. EFE
