The recovered body of a one year and eight months old girl in Bijagua, Upala elevated the number of deaths as a consequence of Hurricane Otto in Costa Rica to ten.

The house where the toddler, Bianca Pichardo, and her family lived was destroyed last Thursday and in the event her mother also died, her body was found on Friday and buried today, her father was barely able to make it out, while the girl’s body was just found today completely buried under mud and rubble.

Six of the victims are from Upala, Alajuela region while the other four are from Bagaces, Guanacaste.

The initial number of missing persons was of 87, out of which 54 have already turned up and 22 are considered not reliable reports, since after verifying the information sometimes it doesn’t check out and others are false reports.

Help continues to arrive to the affected areas.

Mudslide Alert 

During the update provided today by the Emergency Commission, they also alerted of an imminent mudslide in the area of Abrojo de Corredores in the South Pacific area, where parts of mountain wall have already been sliding down the side and into the Abrojo river.

This involves a 2 kilometer area where a lake is also found. This area is in Red Alert and neighbors have been urged to evacuate, the majority have attended the alert and left their homes while others refuse to leave.
