Roche invests in the Service Center in Costa Rica

Roche, the biggest biotechnology company in the world and one of the preferred employers globally will invest in a new Shared Service Center in Information Technology (IT) in Costa Rica, for the operations of the pharmaceutical in U.S.A. and Canada.

Roche is recognized for its focus in the development of innovative medication and diagnose equipment which allow patients to live longer and have a better quality of life, the IT division of Farma is essential for the support of these efforts. The approach of the company in personalized medicine combine the strengths of Farma and Diagnostics – along with advances in science and technology- to improve the treatments for the patients.

The Shared Service Center will [provide support for all IT end users, both of Roche Pharmaceuticals and Roche Diagnostics, receiving consultation calls from all the U.S. territory and Canada. Roche expects to hire approximately 100 collaborators for IT positions, including service agents, managers and trainers. Dominating the English language is a requirement for any of these positions.

The new operation will bring together the shared service centers of Roche in Budapest, Hungary and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, as well as key technology sites of information technology in Madrid, Spain; Basel, Switzerland; Warsaw, Poland; and the south of San Francisco, California, U.S.A.

The Minister of Foreign Commerce, Alexander Mora, stated that “From the Central Government we receive this news with joy, since it shows that the country is adequately responding to the needs of the service sector, which are more sophisticated and complex every day. Also, the growth of Roche is an example of its commitment and consolidated trajectory in Costa Rica, with almost fifty years of operating in the country. We will continue working in maintaining the adequate conditions for its successful operation, to ensure that its links to Costa Rica are strengthened further”.

According to the Costa Rican Investment Promotion Agency (CINDE) this reflects a strong service sector in Costa Rica, which has accumulated exports for the 12 months between July 2015 and June 2016 of a US$7.355 million, US$399 higher than the same period of the previous years (2014-2015).
