A big number of people drink coffee on a regular basis and many of them develop a passion for this wonderful drink; if you are in Costa Rica you are lucky to be in a country that produces some of the best coffee in the world, so why not take a one-day coffee tour and learn more about this traditional beverage.

There are many different options of coffee tours in Costa Rica, today we are going to suggest the Espiritu Santo Coffee Tour, located in the mountains of Naranjo, Alajuela, a region known for having coffee of the highest quality which has a lot to do with the altitude, climate, agronomy and processing practices.

As you arrive at Espiritu Santo Estate, you will be received by a tour guide that will give you all the history and information about the estate and why its conditions are ideal for coffee plantation. From this point the tour will take you through seven stations.

The first station will show you the coffee bean in its different development stages and varieties; the second stop at “La Casita de Juancho” will allow you to live an experience similar to how Costa Ricans lived many years back, when the main economic activity in the country was coffee production.
The third stage involves a visit to the plantation, where you can get a better idea of all the work that goes into growing and collecting great quality coffee beans and eventually how that cup of coffee gets to your table.

In a fourth stop you can see a typical carreta (ox-cart) up close and learn about its importance in Costa Rica’s history. A visit to the coffee mill will is the next stage of this tour, very educational, followed by the coffee roasting process.

The final stage is a small souvenir shop where you can get the variety of coffee you prefer and of course a number of other knick-knacks.

The area of Naranjo is beautiful and just 10 minute drive from Sarchí a community that is worth visiting to enjoy some of its artisan shops and handmade furniture.
