If you live in the province of Heredia, Costa Rica, you may feel trapped sometimes by the difficult traffic situation of this area, which has gotten worse with the road work being done, so if you want to go out of your house and see some of Costa Rica but you don’t want to drive much, here are some places in Heredia that you may have not visited yet and that offer a great way to spend your day, these are also great tours for anyone who wants to explore Costa Rica without having to drive far:

Britt Coffee Tour: This is a half-day tour that takes you to the Britt coffee plantation and roastery located in Barva de Heredia. The place offers four different tours, from a combination of coffee and adventure, one specially catered for avid coffee lovers, the coffee and waterfall tour which takes longer, and the classic coffee tour. Educational and entertaining for all members of the family, even if you are not a big coffee drinker.

Barva Volcano: If you want to disconnect from your daily routine and really get in touch with nature, visit the Barva Volcano, get ready for a hike though, take tennis shoes, light clothes and lots of water, visiting this volcano involves a 12 km walk (7 miles), walking the distance from the entrance of the park to the crater could take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour depending on your rhythm, but once you get to the top you will feel that it was incredibly worth it. The walk down is much easier.

Bosque de la Hoja: This is a beautiful recreational park, surrounded by pine trees and with the nice fresh weather that is characteristic of the area of Los Angeles de Heredia. Here you can enjoy a day of fresh air, there are areas to practice sports, or simply go for a walk enjoying the green nature. Ideal as a place to take your kids to play ball, or your dogs for a nice stroll. There are areas where you can do a BBQ. The price charged to get in is of just 500 colones, (under $1 USD) and you do have to pay for parking, close to 1,000 colones (less than $2 USD).
