Halloween is a very popular day in the United States, in Costa Rica many years back it was actually common for children to go trick-or-treating in their neighborhoods, but the concern for their safety and the fact that this not a traditional Costa Rican festivity has limited the number of activities organized around this date.
There are still, however, activities that are organized for children to dress up and enjoy some fun and there’s also plenty of adult parties that usually take place at clubs, so if you still don’t have any plans but want to do something for Halloween in Costa Rica, we leave you with a few ideas:
Adult Parties:
Hard Rock Café: The Hard Rock Café will have an event by Inked Reapers a community of tattoo lovers, ideal for heavy rock fans, the event will have a costume contest where they will pick the best rock costume, best T.V. series costume and best team costume.
Aloft Horror Story Hotel: The hotel Aloft in Lindora, Santa Ana will host the event “Horror Story Hotel” the party begins at 8 p.m. and runs through 2 a.m. on Saturday, October 28. Costume contest will give out an all-inclusive trip to Los Cabos (MX) for 2; second place a trip to Bogota, Colombia for 1 and third place will receive one night at the Aloft Hotel with breakfast included for 2. The best team costume will get a drinking tour for 10.
Halloween Circus 8avo Rooftop: 8vo Rooftop in Escazú has a very interesting offer, El Big Top Halloween Circus a night of horror with aerial dancers and open format, it also takes place Saturday, October 28, you can make your reservations by calling 4055-0588
Dracula: If you like the theater, Teatro Espressivo in Curridabat will have a special Halloween presentation on Tuesday, October 31 with the show Dracula the famous horror novel by Bram Stoker. Adequate for teens 15 and up. Tickets can be purchased online at https://boleteria.espressivo.cr/
Haunted House: Haunted houses are always fun, specially in Halloween. Two sisters lived in entire solitude, one of them got married and was never able to have children, in her frustration she decided to kill her husband and dedicated her life to kidnapping kids and keeping them trapped in her house, the sister helps with the tortures. Their souls haunt this house recreated by Mexican company Ohana Theater and Costa Rican group Los Despiertos C.R. Where: Comunidad Artística CR in Escazú, 200m North from the Red Cross; when? Different clubs like Vertigo and Venu are also hosting Halloween parties with electronic music.
Kids’ Activities:
Parque Nacional de Diversiones: The Amusement Park in La Uruca will have plenty of entertainment for kids and teens, on Saturday, October 28 and Sunday, October 29, they will have Halloween shows: “The Clowns” and “The Nightmare Before Christmas” as well as fun parades “El entierro del vampiro” (The Vampire’s Funeral) and a Michael Jackson “Thriller” parade. City Place Shopping Center: City Place in Santa Ana will have a Halloween Trick or Treat on Sunday, October 29 starting at 4 p.m. Free event with many activities and surprises for the younger ones.
