The Costa Rica Institute of Meteorology (IMN) and the National Emergency Commission (CNE) have issued warnings regarding bad weather conditions that will affect the country as of this Saturday night and through Monday or Tuesday.

According to the IMN an increase in the rain is expected for the Caribbean coast and the North Zone with heavy rains Saturday night and early Sunday; the CNE issued a yellow or preventive alert for this areas.

The rest of the country will experience strong winds, unstable conditions at sea with big waves in the Caribbean and Guanacaste. Lower temperatures (2 or 3 degrees under the usual average) can be expected in San Jose, Heredia, Alajuela and Cartago.

The bad weather conditions obey to a cold front that will also have effects over Nicaragua and Panama.
Those who live in areas that are vulnerable or at risk of floods and mudslides specially in Limón and Puntarenas should be alert.

For people vacationing in Guanacaste, Puntarenas and Limon, the IMN recomends caution when swimming or surfing since large waves are expected especially on Sunday in the North Pacific region.
