Without any doubt it has been young swimmer from Liberia, Guanacaste, Helena Moreno who has made history and has received the admiration of many during the Central American Sporting Games 2018 that are underway in Managua, Nicaragua.

Moreno accumulated four gold medals for Costa Rica, in the 400m, 1500m, 800m, 200m freestyle and additionally three silver medals in the 100m freestyle, and relays 4×200 freestyle and 4×100 combined.

The Costa Rican also established two new records at this event, in the 400-meter freestyle competition she broke the previous record which was set by Costa Rican Claudia Poll of 4:24.28 making the new best mark 4:18.89; in the 800-meters freestyle Poll had also set the best time in 2006 with 8:58.63; Moreno’s time was 8:54.63.

As we had reported earlier this week Costa Rica also took the gold in Fencing from the hand of Bradley Johnston; also today, Kenia Rodríguez took gold in female Judo +78kg and Karen cope and Natalia Alfaro made the country proud winning gold in female beach volleyball .

Chess was another discipline in which Costa Rica stood out, winning six gold medals and three silver on Friday, after five days of competition.

The Central American Sporting Games will continue through next week and will conclude December 17.
