Another giraffe joined the tower of giraffes at Ponderosa Adventure Park in Liberia, Guanacaste, Costa Rica.
“Maira” was the name given to the new member of the Ponderosa family, and she was born January 23, she stood at 1.45 meters (4’7”) in height and is the daughter of Alika a firs time mother and the alpha male Mao.
Maira is the 11th giraffe in the park, and there are two others that are pregnant and expected to have their offspring between May and June.
“I am very satisfied with the new birth, because this means that we are fulfilling the species nutritional needs and properly caring for them. They need water, resting areas and when they are pregnant they must be separated”, expressed Tania Pivovarova, veterinary doctor of Ponderosa .
Also, last Thursday a baby Chapman zebra was born.
Ponderosa Adventure Park now was over 300 animals, the majority of them native of Africa, half of them were born in Costa Rica, the park has several attractions, such as an “African Safari” tour where you can see animals such as giraffes, zebras, blue neck ostriches, watusis, dromedaries, among others; also ATV tours, waterfall tours, horseback riding and canopy.
