Costa Rican short film “Sudden Death”, directed by Kenneth Sanabria, was selected last year to compete in the New York Latino Film Festival, and now it was also picked to participate in the NewFilmmakers event in Los Angeles.

NewFilmmakers Los Angeles (NFMLA) is a non-profit organization “designed to showcase innovative works by emerging filmmakers from around the world”.

The international event will be held at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater on September 8 in a ceremony dedicated to LatinX and Hispanic Cinema.

Sudden Death is one of 15 short films that will be presented and showcasing Latin talent.

“It’s a big theater and my work will be seen by members of the Academy and producers of the US movie industry. I even got a call from MoveMaker Magazine to do an interview after the screening. It’s a golden opportunity”, commented Sanabria in an interview with La Nacion.

Sudden Death is 15 minutes long and it tells the story of a couple that tragically lose their baby and the circumstances that surrounded the loss, which in part had to do with the couple’s relationship. The cast includes Maikol Dionisio Morales in the role of Rolando and Fiorella Fernández as Amanda, both Costa Rican. The short film was released worldwide in August 26 in the Los Angeles Independent Film Festival Awards, where it received an award for best short film director and best short film script.
