At 6am this Saturday morning The Costa Rican Red Cross informed  that one of their Ground Rescue and Search Units had been sent to Route 32 to offer assistance and help to people that were isolated on this road due to landslides.

According to their first report, there are approximately 50 cars and some 120 people stranded, there are no reports of injuries at this time.

The high pressure system affecting the country since Friday has caused floods, fallen trees and landslides in several areas of the territory; the National Emergency Commission (CNE) has declared a YELLOW ALERT in the counties of Limon, Siquirres, Matina, Talamanca, in the province of Limon; the counties of Turrialba, Jimenez and Alvarado in Cartago province and in Sarapiqui and San Isidro in the province of Heredia.

Green Alert was declared for the countries of Guacimo and Pococi in Limon as well as for the Central Valley.

The Yellow Alert is declared to inform and activate all emergency protocols through the different committees, prepare temporary shelters, supplies, and move personnel to the areas according to the needs.

Green Alert is an informative and preventive alert for the emergency committees and general population, specially those living in areas of high risk.

During the evening of Friday the Costa Rican Electricity Institute (ICE) had to activate its emergency protocols in the hydroelectric plans of Cachi, Angostura and Reventazon.
Heavy and constant rains have been reported also in San Carlos (Alajuela), Perez Zeledon, Escazu and Santa Ana in San Jose. The National Meteorological Institute expected the rain to continue through the morning hours of this Saturday.
