The Costa Rica male national soccer team took the victory over Chile in a friendly matchup this Friday, November 16 in Rencagua, Chile.

“La Sele” played well, better than it has in a very long time, even without Keylor Navas, it dominated the first half of the game without any problems. The offensive game finally appeared in the national soccer team, something that had gone missing since the Russia World Cup.

The team is still under the lead of head coach Ronald Gonzalez, the new coach, Gustavo Matosas will begin his work officially in January.

Kendall Waston opened the score for Costa Rica at minute 35, and it was he who also scored the second goal during the second half at minute 60’, the third and last goal of “La Sele” was the work of Ronald Matarrita, immediately after the second goal.

Chile’s two goals came towards the end of the match when they opted to give it all on the attack, at minute 70’ their first goal was scored by Sebastián Vargas and as the clock marked the end of the game by the work of Alexis Sánchez.

Costa Rican goalkeeper Esteban Alvarado managed to stop a penalty by Alexis Sánchez at minute 81’; in general Alvarado has been displaying good qualities.

“La Sele” will have its next friendly against Peru, next Tuesday, November 20.
