New York, Aug 26 (EFE).– Irish-American actor Pierce Brosnan, who played James Bond in “GoldenEye” and three other installments of the iconic spy series, said in a recent interview that the possibility of a gay 007 should not be ruled out, although he believes a black Bond will come first.

“Sure. Why not?” the 62-year-old Brosnan, whose last Bond flick was the 2002 film “Die Another Day,” told American monthly men’s magazine Details when asked about the possibility of a gay 007.

“Actually, I don’t know how it would work. I don’t think Barbara (Broccoli, the James Bond producer) would allow a gay Bond to happen in her lifetime. But it would certainly make for interesting viewing,” the actor said.

Bond fans had questioned whether Daniel Craig, Brosnan’s replacement, would be suitable as the fictional secret agent since he is blond, but the success of films such as “Casino Royale” and “Skyfall” put those concerns to rest.

“Let’s start with a great black actor being James Bond. Idris Elba certainly has the physicality, the charisma, the presence. But I think Daniel (Craig) will be there for a while yet,” Brosnan said.
