Access to Playa Naranjo in the Santa Rosa National Park is closed for indefinite time due to the damages caused to the road by tropical storm Nate.

The access road to Playa Naranjo, a preferred spot for the practice of surf, is damaged in several points, in the area of Ojochal, where several fallen trees are blocking the road, and the Poza Salada River has large amounts of sand deposited in its shore that doesn’t allow the access of cars.

The Guanacaste Conservation Area (ACG) confirmed the closure after an inspection in the area, “Playa Naranjo is an area for the practice of surf, the high season is approaching and we already have pressure by tourists that are inquiring about the access and don’t understand the level of the damage to the road”, explained Melissa Espinoza from the Guanacaste Conservation Area.

Landslides, fallen trees, exposure of large size rocks that represent a huge danger, and cracked land are part of the dangers found in the road.

“We have to work heavily in this area so we can reopen the road, using material to refill some sectors, build drainage, bridges to go over the rivers and the estuary, all these will take time and effort”, stated the ACG through a press release.
