Recently Forbes published an article on “27 Best Places for Solo Female Travel”, the list was made by three experts in solo female travel and includes destinations in different parts of the world that are considered exciting and a good choice for women who enjoy traveling alone; among them, they include one destination in Costa Rica, but, there are certainly several other destinations in Costa Rica that are ideal for this type of traveler.

The place listed in Forbes is Tabacón Thermal Resort & Spa in La Fortuna de San Carlos:

For any solo female traveler looking for adventure but also relaxation, wellness and to bond with nature, the sustainability-focused Tabacon Thermal Resort & Spa is ideal. It is situated in Costa Rica’s rainforest region of Fortuna de San Carlos at the base of the Arenal volcano. After sitting dormant for over 400 years, the volcano is today one of the world’s most active (but harmless) volcanoes. Its daily lava displays and nighttime light shows create the dramatic backdrop for the resort and the spas unique healing thermal mineral spring river emerges from the volcanic earth”.

The article was published just this past October 11, and we must note that although the Arenal Volcano is indeed active, it, unfortunately, hasn’t shown signs of lava displays since 2010; every now and then it does have gas and vapor emissions and it is possible that we’ll get to see some of the incredible lava emissions again someday. La Fortuna and it’s wonderful natural hot springs is, in fact, a great destination for solo travelers and there are many other great hotels in the area.

It is difficult to pick between the many different and amazing places Costa Rica has to offer those that are ideal for solo female travelers, after all, some women will prefer adventure and a fun nightlife while others would rather go with full relaxation, the destinations included here are, much as La Fortuna, areas where you can find a little of everything, to satisfy the most demanding travelers.
