There are many restaurants in Costa Rica, but the selection of vegan and vegetarian options, although it has increased in the last few years, is still limited. Some regular restaurants have incorporated a couple of dishes in their menu for people that follow a vegan or vegetarian lifestyle, but these are the least. There are, however, a few alternatives where vegans and vegetarians can enjoy a wonderful meal:
Neshuma: A vegan-vegetarian restaurant located in Plaza San Pedro commercial center; this restaurant has a very creative menu, the presentation of the different dishes is impeccable and the flavors are delicious.
El Chante Vegano: Great food, great service, and live music. “Chante” means “place” so this translates into “The Vegan Place”. Located in Alajuela, this place offers sophisticated dishes that are enjoyed by everyone.
Vurgers: Fast food for vegans and vegetarians, amazing artisan burgers with no animal ingredients. There are other options in the menu, all “vegan and vegetarian fast food”, tacos, chifrijo, pizzas, pasta and amazing dessert options.
Loving Hut: Tasty vegan food in Heredia, Loving Hut stays faithful to the Costa Rican style dishes but they eliminate all animal products, the result is balanced dishes with a great taste.
Azuki: Artisan vegan and vegetarian food. Azuki is located in Tibás and is a great alternative for lunch, their menu has a lot of variety and everything is carefully prepared.
Arbol de Seda: You can find it in Barrio Escalante, vegetarian fusion food with Peruvian, Mediterranean and Asian flavors.
Pura Vegan Tamarindo: While at the beach you can still find amazing vegan and vegetarian alternatives. Pura Vegan creates and combines to create unique flavors.
Verdísimo Gastro & Pub: In Barrio Escalante, great selection, impressive flavor and very good service. Desserts are a must try here.
If you are in search of regular restaurants that also offer a selection of vegan dishes, we recommend: Naans & Curries in Santa Ana, Tin Jo in San José and Alquimia in Santa Ana.
