This past August, a Web application developer that works closely with Google visited Costa Rica and met with our Minister of Education to discuss the potential of a special project to reduce dropout rates and truancy in public schools. The idea would be to teach students how to perform certain tasks online through the use of Google Apps; these tasks would entail communicating with peers around the world via the Google Plus (G+) social network, and there would be monetary remuneration involved to encourage students to return to school.

A second phase of this special program would actually involve the advancement of Costa Rica’s goal to become carbon neutral by the year 2021; details were not immediately available in this regard, but the plan would apparently involve social media campaigns to disseminate messages from the government to instruct the public about how they can help in the practical reduction of a nationwide carbon footprint.

It turns out that the firm in question has entered into a partnership with other Canadian companies that share a similar vision of applying Internet technologies to educational projects. Here’s a recent press release on the matter:

Aroga signed a strategic agreement with LB Systems, a research, development and manufacturer company focused on developing products and strategies to maximize the social contributions of people with disabilities. LB Systems’ purpose is to achieve this goal through the development of intellectual property (IP) and product manufacturing for non-traditional education markets. Additionally, Aroga and LB Systems have signed agreements with Vizzeco, giving them the ability to provide Google Apps for Education (“Schoogle”) and Google for Work.

Vizzeco is a Google Cloud solutions implementation company. Its partnership with Aroga and LB Systems combines over 400 person-years of experience in both mainstream and assistive technologies. The Aroga, LB Systems and Vizzeco partnership (the partnership) will deliver custom IT solutions and optimized cloud computing resources to organizations while building upon current and future assistive technology capabilities.
