Press Release / The Costa Rican Minister of Environment and Energy, Edgar Gutierrez Espeleta, and his counterpart of the Principality of Andorra, Silvia Calvo Armengol, signed this Monday in Marrakech, Morocco, the memorandum of understanding on Environment and Protection of Biodiversity.

With this agreement both countries will exchange experiences in areas like the implementation of a carbon neutrality system to limit the considerable gas emissions that cause global warming, and the environment conservation policies.

The signing of this memorandum of understanding gives continuity to the agreement reached during the official visit of the Prime Minister of Andorra, Antonio Martí Petit, to Costa Rica back in October 30-31 during the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Costa Rica and the Principality of Andorra.

This was part of the bilateral meeting in the city of Marrakech during the celebration of the COP22 (Conference of the Parties) on climate change that will continue through November 18.

Both Costa Rica and Andorra are countries part of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the United Nations Agreement on Biodiversity, promoted in 1992 in the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development also known as the First Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro.
