Arenal Volcano in Costa Rica, is one of those volcanos that you see in postcards and photos, the perfect shape cone is visible from many areas and the wonderful nature that surrounds it makes it one of the most popular National Parks in Costa Rica among both domestic and foreign tourists; this volcano is still considered active, but its currently dormant, a few years back glowing lava used to flow from its crater offering visitors a unique and memorable sight.

Located in the Tilarán mountain range, part of the Guanacaste mountain range that separates the provinces of Guanacaste and Alajuela, it can be accessed through La Fortuna de San Carlos in Alajuela (the most commonly used route) and from Tilarán. The National Park has an extension of 12.124 hectares which includes the Arenal Volcano and Cerro Chato, a second, smaller volcano that has been inactive for many years and the Arenal Lake all which forms part of the Arenal Conservation Area.

The National Park has four different habitats Tropical Rainforest, Tropical Montane Rainforest, Pre-Montane Rainforest and Lower Montane Rainforest which makes for a wide variety of flora and different wildlife, perfect for bird watchers and photographers but just in general for all nature lovers.
Hot Springs are one of the many attractions in the area, there are plenty of hotels and spas to choose from according to your preferences.

Arenal has also become an area of adventure tourism, the Mistico Park hanging bridges, horseback riding tours, whitewater rafting, canyoneering, canopy, hikes, kayaking or windsurfing in Lake Arenal, day and night tours and mountain bike tours. Kids also have a good option for them at Kalambu hot springs water park where the whole family can enjoy slides, pools and play areas.

La Fortuna town is small and friendly; you’ll find all main services here; tourists also enjoy visiting Monteverde once they have explored Arenal’s wonders, while others prefer to stop by Tilarán, a quiet and charming town that also provides impressive scenic beauty.
