Sunday, February 19 is the day set for the ninth edition of the BMX War Jam to take place in the city of Nicoya, Guanacaste, in the gym located in the San Ambrosio School, beginning at 9 a.m. and finishing by 5 p.m.

The event, sponsored by the Nicoya Municipality expects the participation of at least 50 competitors from all regions of Costa Rica.  The registration to the event has a cost of ₡10.000 colones (under $20.00 USD).

“This event hopes to bring together experienced BMX riders and that other young people become interested and motivated by this sport. The success of this event is shown in the fact that this is the ninth year we have it in Nicoya”, said Luis Elías Benavides, organizer of the activity.

The BMX War Jam is a freestyle BMX riding competition, it has two different categories:  flatland and street. In the “flatland”, competitors must execute their maneuvers on a smooth flat surface, without any type of ramp, jumps or grindrails; the tricks are performed by balancing and spinning on the bike in different and creative positions, the only rule is not putting the feet on the ground while the athlete performs the tricks. The “street” version involves ramps, handrails, stairs, and obstacles of different types.

Public can attend this event for free. Food and beverages will be sold at the venue and the funds will benefit the San Ambrosio School.
