The World Cup Qualifying Match between Costa Rica and Honduras that was scheduled to take place on Friday, October 6th at the Costa Rica National Stadium, was rescheduled for Saturday, October 7th as a result of the bad weather conditions that has caused a state of National Emergency in the country.

“The FIFA organization understood that playing this game tomorrow was not convenient for anyone. We waited for the Honduras team to land, which they did a 5 p.m., and after speaking to them and the corresponding FIFA and Concacaf authorities, the game will be reprogrammed for Saturday at 4 p.m. at the National Stadium”, said Rodolfo Villalobos, president of Fedefutbol during the press conference held this Thursday.

Tropical Storm Nate has left thousands of people in shelters, floods, closed roads, isolated communities and so far six dead people. Police officers and other emergency personnel are all focused on the emergency the country is going through. The soccer game would have required at least 600 police officers, and it was impossible for the Ministry of Public Security to assign this number of officers to a soccer game when the country is going through an emergency.

The storm is moving North and as it moves further away from the country the rains are expected to subside by Friday afternoon.

The field at the National Stadium is in good condition.
