The Ministry of Education of Costa Rica (MEP) registers more than 500 private education institutions in the country; the large number of options can make picking the right school for your kids quite a challenge, that’s why today (Saturday,June 17) EKA Business Magazine is presenting the Private Schools Fair at the National Stadium.

The entrance to the fair has a cost of only ¢1,000 (under $2), it starts and 9:30 a.m. and will conclude at 6 p.m.

More than 25 private institutions will be presenting their offer including Preschools, Elementary Schools and High Schools; there will also be information on extra-curricular activities, and different classes for the physical and intellectual development of children.

The purpose of the fair is to provide families with options and information on several institutions in one place so they can choose according to their interests and needs the school that best fits their requirements.

When picking a school for your children, experts recommend you consider a school that adapts to your child’s interests and personality so that it will allow for a healthy development and allows him/her to bring out his/her true potential, as a student and a human being. The artistic and sports programs offered are also important.

The distance from your home to the school, the schedule and the price are aspects parents need to take into account.

Once parents have narrowed down their options, visits to the schools are necessary to check the school’s infrastructure and speak to the Director and different administrative personnel and get a better idea of what the institution is like.

Involving the child in the process once the parents have picked a few schools that accommodate to the family’s needs is important.

According to information by the Ministry of Education, the monthly tuition in private schools in Costa Rica average ȼ235,000 (over $415) but can be of as much as $1,000.00 or more depending on the school and level. Costs for uniforms, materials, transportation and activities must also be considered.
